Matthias H. Wagener

Matthias Wagener is the founder and managing attorney of Wagener Law.  He has been practicing labor and employment law for 25 years, and he is a seasoned workplace investigator, having conducted over 500 investigations.  He is often engaged to investigate matters that involve the potential for significant financial, legal, or public relations exposure issues, including those involving company executives, celebrities, or other high-profile individuals in the entertainment industry.  He also has exceptional experience conducting investigations in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.  He is a frequent speaker and presenter, and he has experience testifying as a fact witness regarding his investigations.

Before founding Wagener Law in 2010, Mr. Wagener spent eight years as the chief employment law attorney for the operations business unit of Amgen, the world’s largest biotechnology company.  He had responsibility for all employment-related litigation, counseling, and investigations for operations in California and across the country. 

Mr. Wagener began his legal career as an associate in the Labor & Employment department of O’Melveny & Myers, a premier law firm that U.S. News and World Report has ranked “Tier 1” amongst the nation’s best employment practices.  At O’Melveny, Mr. Wagener represented a variety of employers in federal and state courts and before various administrative agencies.

Mr. Wagener earned his Juris Doctor from Southwestern Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude and served on the Executive Board as an editor of the Southwestern Law Review.

Mr. Wagener earned his Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of California, Davis.

Mr. Wagener also attended the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine Caruso School of Law and successfully completed the nationally-recognized program, Mediating the Litigated Case.

Mr. Wagener is admitted to practice law in California.  He is a member of the Association of Workplace Investigators, and he has been certified by the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) as a Senior Professional in Human Resources.
